Australia and Indonesia to sign historic defence deal | 9 News Australia. Tim Tufuga

There are no NEW terms with the friendly relations treaty to reaffirm the Lombok Treaty for shared Intelligence in matters of counter terrorism and National Security, however, there is NO COMMITMENT to MILITARY deployment but 'consultation' if military matters of State are concerned. Unlike the Pukpuk Treaty whereby if one Nation is attacked the other Nation will join to defend the National Sovereignty of the Nation under attack, ie Papua New Guinea and Australia. However, the Indonesian Defense Treaty 2025 is to reaffirm the intelligence sharing and consultation process between Indonesia and Australia before any military commitments is considered. Again, reaffirming the Lombok Treaty of 2006.

Nothing new. Still, it is good to have a State visit by the Indonesian President to Australia.

The Manuhua Air Force Base consideration by the Russian President proposal is not far from the mind by both the Australian and Indonesian Government particularly since Indonesia is now a BRICS member and the Chinese Nine Dash Line A2/ AD shipping lanes for BRICS members is of high concern for BRICS member Nations. Russia and Chinese Shipping lanes now includes Indonesia. The Russians have proposed to establish a South China Sea Presence in the region to eyeball the Anderson Air Base in Guam, the Australian Tindall Air Base in Northern Territory and the AUKUS FONOPS within Indonesia, and the Nine Dash Line A2/AD within the foreseeable future.

The true strength of the friendly treaty is a delicate walk on eggshells moment for Indonesia-Australian relations in light of the recent BRICS move by Indonesia and the FONOPs incursions into the Chinese A2/AD which is in actuality the BRICS Shipping lanes spheres of influence.
