The RAN proposed Hunter Class Type 26 Frigate costs 14 times the cost of the Chinese Type 054B Frigate. By Tim Tufuga.





One Australian Hunter Class Frigate was originally touted as costing $3billion AUD, which in 2025 has blown to $9billion per ship. which is the modified version of the Royal Navy Type 26 Frigate which still has not been constructed in Britain let alone in Australia. The expected construction of the first Royal Australian Hunter Class Frigate was expected to be completed by 2027 now projected to 2034.

The Frigate Ship is too expensive, under weaponised with an inferior weapons loadout comparable to similar Frigates and Destroyers by other Navies and especially by potential rivals.

The Chinese rival most advance Frigate the Type 054B 2 are in service out of a dozen or so currently under construction. Each Frigate costs $410 million usd each.

The armaments load out is superior to the proposed Type 26 Frigate or the Hunter Class Frigate costing Australia a whooping $9billion AUD for a single Frigate.

The Chinese would have constructed 14 Type 054B Frigates for a single Hunter Class Frigate. 😉

Even more embarrassing for the Australian Navy a single Hunter Class Frigate would have bought Australia five Chinese Type 055 Destroyers. 😄
