Former Australian LNP Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and former Chairman of the Australian Republican Movement, hosts the Soveriengty and Security Forum, held in early April, 2025, in Canberra.
Topics duscussed.
* US Australian relations.
* The Trump Administration affects on Australian National Security policy objectives moving forward.
* Trump's tolerance of the Putin and Xi narrative of the Multipolarity world order, pivotting away from the American Hegemonic leadership since the end of World War Two.
* The imminent threat to annex Canada as the 51st State.
* The threat to invoke Article 5 of NATO Alliance with the attempt to annex Greenland.
* The Pillar II of the AUKUS Treaty including the procurement of US Militry weapons and munitions, including the US Virginia Class SSNs.
* The overwhelming threat to the current world order with the Russian War with Ukraine and now the threat presented by an unprecedented Trump Administration to the Status Quo.
Whilst I share this Malcom Turnbull Anglo-Australian spin on Soveriegnty and Security Forum video post, as a Samoan Australian, I present my own point of view.

51st State

Generally speaking, the current pivot away the all the way with LBJ has been challenged directly by the Trump 2.0 especially with the 51st State threat against not only the Anglo American Status quo but it is a redux to the 1776 War of Independence and more particularly to the War of 1812 between the Redcoats and the Minutemen.

The Australian shock and awe response to the Trump 51st State in particular has been viewed as a gravedigging American Hegemonic pivot which has been considered as American Self Harm. The Australian and traditional American Allies have been astounded by the seemingly Kakistocratic MAGA phenomena, further accentuated with the outrageous Tariff Trade War with 57 US Trading Partners including Australia and America's closest Trading Partners.

BRI and BRICS Plus

More closer to the region, is the impact of China, with the Soft Power Global Dominance spearheaded with the Xi Belt and Road Initiative, (BRI), which has fundamentally, thoroughly thrashed the American Hard Power Global Town Sheriff International Diplomacy. The Chinese BRI has enticed many of the non-aligned and traditional Western Nations anxiety regions, Middle East, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Sahel and Central and Eastcoast Africa. ASEAN member Nations is China's main trading Partner which is unaffected by the American punitive Mercantilism Tariffs. Moreover, the BRI infrastructural developments globally have fundamentally pivotted many Nations more favourably towards China wooed by Chinese Soft Power diplomacy.

Russo-Ukrainian War

The Chinese Belt and Road Initiative has been a segway for many Non-aligned Nations to want to apply for BRICS Plus membership. In this instance, the Russian more aggressive challenge to NATO via the Special Military Operation within Ukraine in liberating the traditional Russian Speaking territories of Crimea and its landbridge of Kherson and the Donbass since the late Soviet Union President Khruschev had given Crimea to the Soviet Union Republic of Ukraine as an election Pork Barrel deal to win the Post Stalin Soviet Union Presidential Election in 1954, the Ghost of this 1954 deal would haunt the liberation of Crimea and the landbridge annexed territories littered with parachuted Ukrainian settlers to Ukrainise the Donbass region even before the 1991 Independence of the Ukrainian Sovereign State which then leads to the present day crisis of the Donetsk Peoples Republic and the Lugansk Peoples Republic initial Political Referendums in 2014, and the subsequent annexation of Crimea in 2014 and the start of the Ukrainian Civil War in Eastern Ukraine, subsequently, leading to the Russo-Ukrainian War with the Russian Special Military Operation on February 24th, 2022.


Trump 2.0

The Black Monday Reciprocal Tariff Scare reverberated throughout the world resulting in a sudden plummet of most Western Markets with trillions lost in a single days trading, including billions lost in Australian market trading.

Then the reprieve, when the following day, President Trump announced the 90 days reprieve, which immediately resulted in a sudden resurgence of stock spikes, indicating a Bear Market downturn was only an ephemeral shock to encourage an immediate sell off Bear Market panic selling by the the fragile market system. Then, just as sudden was the Bear Market plunge, the announcement by the Trump Administration would lead to market confidence returning and just as sudden was the Bear Market had shocked the world, the Bull Market resurgence spiked the stocks and shares back to normalcy. The sudden plunge of the stocks in a single days trading had prompted the eager speculators to buy up big allowing for some to consider the Tariff scare panic sell as Trump induced market manipulation for investors to buy up during a Bear Market slump allowing for the return to normalcy as a massive investor boost along the Bull Market rise the following day.

Such market manipulation would almost be considered Trump 2.0 political economic malversation along global proportions but who would argue with the most dynamic Political Maverick in Global Political history. Certainly, the Australians have been inadvertently riding along this Trump 2.0 and clinching onto the guard rails for dear life.

As an Australian and a Pacific Islander Samoan, Im simply enjoying the thrill of this Trump 2.0 roller coaster ride. It hasnt been boring at all. As for Anglo-Australian Conservatives, especially from the LNP right wing sectors of Australian Politics on the other hand? We can continue to watch and listen intently here.
